This lesson aims to simplify eruption dates and make them easier to learn. You should then be comfortable in applying these to your paediatric patients and explain to them what stage of dental development they are in.

The general patterns of eruption are (1): Generally, the pattern of eruption is: 6 1 2 3 4 5 7 8. Remember that at the ages of 9-10 years, no eruption occurs, and developmental changes are only visible radiographically. Crown completion occurs 3-5 years before eruption. Root formation is complete 2-3 years post-eruption. Why not try to write a report on this mixed dentition OPG and guess the patient's age? Remember to follow a logical order. Eg. Start in the Upper Right Quadrant and count the teeth present in each quadrant. Once you have the full picture of the teeth present, you will be able to take a good estimate of the patient's dental age. Dental Age:
